Illustrations of Kathryn Ault Noble
Today’s sketch was both a failure and a success. I was once again reminded to practice what I preached for so many years. Don’t redraw the thumbnail, enlarge it!
Above is the thumbnail, below is the thumbnail with a few tweaks.
Below is my morning redraw. The redraw, especially in the morning, is always stiff.
As you can see, I was not satisfied with the first beak I inked, so I added a few extras on the page to replace in Photoshop.
I also rebuilt the wing holding the umbrella, replacing the one from this morning with something closer to the thumbnail.
Adding a goat sketched on a prior day and it’s a start for a story. The goat is not saying nice things by the way. They never do. In fact, goats cuss often and loudly. That however will NOT be in a children’s book.
A huge thank you to Linda Silvestri for hosting Sketch a Day, and Tara Lazar for the excellent Picture Book Idea a day guest speakers. So much inspiration in one month, of course I won’t quit. Onward!
